Maintenance Technician - Akron, OH

Permanent Position with Benefits

This position safely performs various multi-craft maintenance duties within a manufacturing environment, including but not limited to the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of high precision machinery, facilities and equipment. Candidates must be available to work nights and/or weekends.

Safely responds to, diagnoses, repairs and resolves a variety of multi-craft maintenance needs for complex production machinery, support equipment and general facility essentials.
Troubleshoots the situation, determines root cause of the problem and best options for repair or modification and follows through. Applies machine tool alignments to adjust equipment or instrumentation as needed to ensure accuracy. Partners with production personnel to fully understand technical situations and best options to pursue.
Performs routine preventative maintenance on machinery including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts as required.
Uses or operates manual and powered tools and equipment, such as lifts and welding equipment, to safely perform work.
Uses, creates or completes required documentation supporting scheduled or completed work. This may include reading / interpreting complex blueprints to ensure correct machine installation/operation or drawing detailed schematics for work planning or records. This may also include using company computer systems to determine work to be performed and to log completed work. Records parts and materials used, and requisitions new materials/parts as necessary. Follows work orders as required.
Leads machine tool repairs, rebuilds and other maintenance work to insure quality maintenance operations. Personnel may include co-workers, temporary workers, vendors or contractors. Leads in the set-up and installation of new production machinery, including CNC equipment.
Performs required testing to ensure repairs/installations work as designed. Leads other special maintenance or repair projects as assigned.
Leads small group improvement activities and takes responsibility for team assignments. Tracks metrics and other analytical information for team performance. Actively makes suggestions for process improvements using lean manufacturing concepts and ISO requirements, and encouraging others to do the same. Presents information to others as required.
Leads by example in supporting the daily schedule on a regular basis, including working overtime as necessary. Ensures communications regarding job status and/or problems that have occurred to the following shift.
Provides technical leadership and individual and/or small group training.
Provides feedback and guidance to others within work area. Functions as a technical resource. Provides back-up support to supervisory function as requested.
Performs maintenance to company facilities including routine plumbing repairs, carpentry, electrical repairs, and routine maintenance to HVAC equipment.
Coordinates with contractors and external resources to define, plan and execute the scope of work.
Follows established safety rules and regulations, makes recommendations for safety improvements, and utilizes required safety equipment.
Participates in the training of others on appropriate safety related topics such as lock out/tag out and confined space.
Stays up-to-date on current maintenance and mechanical repair technologies.
Proactively, positively and constructively supports the Ariel vision, mission and quality statements, and the general company direction at all times.

Extensive experience with industrial or mechanical maintenance installations and set-ups of production machinery (CNC equipment preferred).
Welding, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or other facility maintenance experience.
Experience with precision measuring, hand and power tools.
Experience working with contractors / external resources in equipment installations or other maintenance needs required.
Demonstrated ability to apply multi-craft maintenance skills and knowledge of machining / manufacturing equipment and processes.
Experience with assembly, installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of complex mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
Experience with installation and maintenance of electrical systems / electronics, such as transformers, controls, and servo drives.
Experience with installation, programming, and/or repair of automated machinery / equipment, such as robots, programmable controllers.
Ability to read, interpret and modify blueprints, electrical schematics, and PLCs / ladder logic.
Ability to maintain facility carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC equipment.
Experience with cranes, tow motors, forklifts, and genie booms preferred.
Experience with basic shop math and geometry.
Strong computer, communication, and customer service skills.
Solid understanding of quality systems, lean manufacturing, and safety procedures.
