Overview

HOERBIGER Engine Solutions Altronic, LLC is seeking an Electrical Hardware Design Engineer for our Girard, Ohio facility (Youngstown/Warren area). Altronic is a leading supplier of industrial ignition systems, instrumentation and engine controls.

A key member of the team, the Electrical Hardware Design Engineer is responsible for hands-on design of Instrumentation, Controls and Ignition systems for Natural Gas Engines.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop product architecture, and define requirements for electrical, mechanical, and firmware/software development.
  • Analyze, design, and develop analog and digital circuits as required.
  • Validate product and circuit robustness using computer simulations, conventional analysis and standard testing methodologies.
  • Conduct and participate in design reviews.
  • Create schematics and assist internally or externally with PCB board layouts
  • Work with third parties inside and outside the company on custom and semi-custom electronics design, mechanical design, board layout and software development
  • Provide sketches and concepts to drafting for production documentation.
  • Prepare test requirements and instruction manuals.
  • Work with manufacturing to assure lowest cost and highest manufacturability of products.
  • Preferred to be able to write software for proof of concept testing, both for embedded microcontrollers and Linux based systems.
  • Communicate with hardware and software engineers to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
  • Formulate and design software system, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
  • Work with customers, marketing and field personnel to define product and service requirements.
  • Deliver and incorporate feedback results into new hardware, software and service specifications.
  • Interface with Manufacturing, Sales, Purchasing, Field Service Representatives, and Quality during product development and continued support after product release.


Experience and Technical Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited program at an accredited university or college or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of experience Electronic Design engineering at circuitry level
  • Control systems experience utilizing PID or more advanced control methods.
  • Knowledge of engines, compressors, and generators; how they work and the measurement and control systems typically used on these engines.
  • Must have working knowledge of microcontrollers, and typical microcontroller peripherals as well as serial and parallel busses.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet basics.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, Oscilloscopes, power supplies, frequency counters, frequency sources, 4-20mA inputs and outputs, PC interfaces (Serial converters, CAN converters) Ethernet switches, etc.)
  • Knowledge of temperature, pressure, vibration sensors and methods.
  • Knowledge of electrical CAD schematic capture, board layout.
  • Preferred knowledge of Modbus, CAN bus, EtherNet/IP.
  • Preferred to have a working knowledge of PLC's, both hardware and software, ladder logic.
  • Knowledge of engines, how they work, and the measurement, ignition, and control systems typically used on engines.
  • Preferred to have a working knowledge of PLC's, both hardware and software, ladder logic.
  • Preferred knowledge of UL/ETL/IEC standards and how they apply to designs.
  • Communications protocols over hardware networks CAN, RS485, ETHERNET
  • Understanding of quality control and documentation control.
  • Component selection for proper performance relating to packaging, size, power, temperature, performance.
