Job Description

Job Summary:

The Electrical Controls Engineer will be responsible for specifying electrical control schemes, PLC and HMI Programming, commissioning, installing, and trouble shooting of both new and existing automated systems.

Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Responsible for ensuring the creation of efficient, market leading products
  • Design, develop, and supervise all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment, and machinery
  • Installation, programming, and technical support of PLC and HMI based hardware and software
  • Oversee and maintain the operation of all equipment
  • Troubleshoot and fix machines
  • Plan and keep up with preventive maintenance and upgrades on machines
  • Install new machines and ensure their proper operation
  • Work with a team to detect problems and offer solutions
  • Maintain quality and safety standards
  • Travel to other locations to perform service on machines
  • Identify opportunities to increase production and efficiency by following market trends and technological adaptions

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in related field
  • Ability to report daily to our Oberlin, Ohio facility
  • Technical proficiency
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strong ability to multitask and work as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

What Will Make You Special (Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Previous experience in the Horticultural industry
  • Experience working with machinery
  • Previous PLC and HMI software experience

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Working mainly in our indoor manufacturing facility
  • Some travel to other sites and customer locations – environment can vary
  • Subjected to weather conditions and changing temperatures when traveling
  • Frequent walking, sitting, standing, use of hands, and talking
  • Additional Travel will be required

Job Type: Full-time


  • Electrical Engineering: 1 year (Required)
  • PLC and HMI Programming: 1 year (Preferred)
